Two weeks ago, we told you the 2012 model year vehicles that cost the least in car insurance, but it’s equally important to know the ones that will cost the most. Thankfully, researchers at Insure.com annually compile a list to help car buyers make the best purchase decision they can.
In general, the 2012 vehicles that will carry the priciest car insurance were those from Europe and with powerful engines, or in other words, the fast sports car. According to Geoffrey Miller, an evolutionary psychologist, says it’s only human nature to want a sports car.
“Driving a sporty car may be just another way of saying, ‘Hey, look at me, I’m really cool,’ especially for men,” he says.
Jill Bookman of American Collectors Insurance seconds that statement, saying cost plays into the decision. “The reason people want to own a car that lightens their wallet by $100,000 is because it is … a physical representation of success. You have the wherewithal to purchase something that everyone knows is an expensive car.”
So, which 2012 cars will carry the highest car insurance premiums? Here is the list:
- Audi R8 Spyder Quattro Convertible – $3,384
- Mercedes CL600 Coupe – $3,307
- Mercedes S600 – $2,948
