If you’ve got kids, odds are they’ll be going out trick-or-treating tonight. To them, it can be one of the best nights of the year, but to parents, having one’s kids roaming the streets during nighttime can rightly be worrisome. So we’ve got a few trick or treat safety tips for you and your family to help put your mind at ease.
First, plan a route together. Trick or treating can take your kids several streets away from home and it’s a good idea for both you and them to know exactly where they’re going. Also remember that while teenagers may want to be out on their own, children aged 12 and under should not be out at night by themselves, and we strongly recommend adult supervision.
Second, take a look at their costume. Make sure they are wearing comfortable shoes and not wearing a mask that could potentially obstruct their breathing or vision. Non-toxic makeup is a good way to get around wearing a mask if they really want something on their face. You should also consider the length of their costume—it shouldn’t be too long, or else it’ll drag on the floor and potentially get caught on something and cause an accident.
Finally, check the candy when everyone is home. Toss out any that isn’t in its original wrapper or looks as though it has been opened.
And that’s it! Happy and safe Halloween from Mama’s Used Cars!
