Best Deal on Longest-Lasting Used Cars

The Ford Taurus was listed as one of the longest lasting used cars according to Forbes

For some people, the most valuable aspect of a car is how much it costs and its durability.  More than what it looks like, how fast it is or its fuel efficiency, the most pressing question in the minds of such consumers is: how much is it and how long will it last?

Using data from iSeeCars.com, Forbes has put together a list of the longest-lasting used cars that sell below market value.  Statisticians from iSeeCars.com analyzed 30 million used car ads over a year period and found which models between 1981 and 2010 had over 200,000 miles on them.  They then checked this data against data showing which vehicles were selling consistently 10% below their market value.

Coming in third place was the Toyota Camry (no surprise to see this extremely popular midsize sedan on the list).  The Nissan Maxima came in second place, while first place honors went to the Ford Taurus.

Of course, you can find those and other great used cars at Mama’s Used Cars!

When searching for a great used car, there are a number of factors to take into account before making your purchase. Of course everyone looks at things like the price, the mileage, and the year of the car, but how can you assure the car will be reliable to get your money’s worth?

Recently Yahoo! Autos put together their list of the “10 Most Reliable Car Brands”, using research they compiled in over a year and a half study with over 350,000 sample vehicles from all over the country. Most studies use two time frames, normal initial quality (90 days) and “long-term” quality (3 to 5 years), but Yahoo! Autos extended their time frames to make sure buyers were getting the most for their money.

The top five brands in the study were Chevrolet, Honda, GMC, Lexus, and Toyota – with Toyota earning the top spot. Mama’s used cars is proud to offer used models from each of these brands, including a 2008 Lexus ES 350 and a 2013 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner!

Consumer Reports recently published its list of the best—and worst—used cars on roadways. For the sake of staying positive, however, we’ll just highlight what Consumer Reports saw as the very best in each segment, and highlight some of our favorites here at Mama’s Used Cars.

In the less than $10,000 division, Consumer Reports picked the Toyota Prius (2004-07), Scion xB (2004-06), Pontiac Vibe (2005-08), and the Toyota Matrix (2005-07) as the best choices. The Hyundai Sonata (2007-08) and the Acura TSX (strictly 2004) were favorite contenders for the sedan segment. SUVs included the Toyota Highlander V6 (2004) and the Mitsubishi Outlander (2007).

Consumer Reports also looked into the $10,000-$15,000 range. The Honda Fit (2011-12) and the Kia Soul (2010-11) took top honors for small cars best sedans included the Mazda3 (2009-12) and the Infiniti G35 (2006-07). SUVs were led by the Acura MDX (2004-06), Toyota RAV4 (2006, 2008), and the Honda CR-V (2005-08).

In the $15,000-$20,000 division, the Hyundai Elantra (2012-2013) and Subaru Impreza (2011-13) led the small cars. The Toyota Camry (2011-12), a top pick from us at Mama’s, joined the Toyota Camry Hybrid (2010-11) and the Acura TL (2008) in the sedan category. The Lexus RX (2006-07) and the Subaru Forester (2009-10, non-turbo) finished out the division for the SUVs.

Best used cars in the $20,000-$25,000 division included these sedans: Toyota Avalon (2011), Lexus LS (2006), Lincoln MKZ (2011-12), and the Ford Fusion Hybrid (2012). We at Mama’s Used Cars especially enjoy the MKZ. The Toyota Highlander Hybrid (2008-09) and the Honda Pilot (2009-10) finished things out for the SUV segment.
