Come to a Classic American Cruise-In at Sonic This Labor Day

Classic American Cruise-In

No matter where you’re from, there’s nothing quite like a classic American cruise-in to lift your spirits! Open to visitors of all ages and backgrounds, the event is designed to bring together automobile enthusiasts and performance junkies alike. Here’s everything you need to know about the classic American cruise-in from us here at Mama’s Used Cars.

Taking place on the first Saturday of each month at the Sonic in Goose Creek, the American cruise-in is open to imports and American-made models of all years and makes. Falling on Labor Day this year, there’s bound to see some spectacular goodies that show up!

The event, sponsored by Lowcountry Muscle Car, holds a “Feature” night where Mustangs, Camaros, trucks, and other various models take the front 13 spaces. Space is limited so the event runs on a first-come-first-serve basis. Make sure to arrive early!

September 3rd, Labor Day, happens to be “Chevelle Night” which means, you guessed it, Chevrolet Chevelles! Originally produced from 1963 to 1977, the Chevelle has long been on the production line but its style has inspired dozens in the modern automotive market. In 1969, the Chevelle was advertised as “America’s most popular mid-size car,” giving it a status few models can compete with.

December Car Sales Make it the Best Month to Buy

December Car Sales

2015 is drawing to a close as we move into the last month of the year, and people are in the midst of spending lots of money on a variety of different things in preparation for holiday festivities. However, the end of the year is also a great time to buy cars, as dealerships are knocking down prices to clear the outgoing models from their lots and in the hopes of fitting in as many sales as possible before the New Year begins. December car sales make right now one of the best times of the year to buy a new car.

The year-end sales rush causes many manufacturers to dramatically slash sticker prices by the thousands with the intent of clearing inventory of outdated products and ushering in the new. 2016 models that have already launched may also see impressive deals as dealerships try to attract buyers to updated models. However, demand around this time of year also falls drastically, so even used car dealerships will offer great deals in an attempt to bolster sales as fewer people are looking for new vehicles during the holiday season.

Though December car sales may attract you, keep in mind, too, that dealerships operate on what is known as the US Sales Reporting Calendar. This calendar, unlike the public one, ends on January 4th as opposed to New Year’s, so buyers may find even better deals during the first few days of January when car dealerships are fitting in a few extra sales before the Sales Reporting Calendar ends.

Brian Kent Goes on Countrywide Road Trip with his Nissan LEAF

countrywide road trip

Brian Kent, a Nissan LEAF owner determined to bring to light the use of carbon in the U.S., is celebrating National Drive Electric Week early by going on a countrywide road trip with his Nissan LEAF. Beginning August 24th, he set off behind the wheel of his EV from Albion, NY, on a journey that will take him across all 48 contiguous US. states—we wonder how close he’ll get to Mama’s Used Cars!

Kent will plant a tree in each state, which is why he’s calling his adventure the Negative Carbon US Road Trip: in 40 years, the 48 trees he plants should absorb about 10 times more CO2 than his LEAF will produce on the 26,000-mile journey. The trees will be planted at some of the 485 sites owned by Kampgrounds of America, which is sponsoring the adventure.

“Not everyone can or needs to drive across the country,” said Kent, “but most Americans drive less than 40 miles per day, and an EV costs the equivalent of less than a dollar-per-gallon of gasoline to drive, so these cars are ideal for most Americans and we need them for our environment and our children’s future.”

April is National Car Care Month!

Car Care Month!

Car Care Month!

We are well into April, and that means spring has arrived, the weather is calling for picnics and long walks, and summer is just around the corner. April is also National Car Care month, and serves as a good reminder that our cars need a little TLC, too. This month, take time to get your car caught up on routine service, make necessary repairs, and get your car ready for the hot summer months.

According to the Car Care Council, vehicle inspections held at community Car Care Month events in 2014 revealed that a whopping 84% of vehicles required service or parts – that’s up 5% from 2013.

“Neglected vehicle care almost always means much higher costs down the line in the form of more extensive repairs or lost resale value. These results show that the majority of vehicle owners could save money by being proactive in the maintenance of their second largest investment,” said Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council.

This month, make an appointment with a trusted technician or check your car out yourself. Either way, things that should be checked include:

  • Belts and hoses
  • Filters
  • Windshield wipers
  • Tires
  • Fluids
  • Lights
  • Alignment
  • Battery

“Whether you do it yourself or take your car to a professional service technician, National Car Care Month in April is the perfect time to focus on your vehicle’s maintenance needs to make sure it is ready for the upcoming spring and summer travel season,” said White. “Following a routine maintenance program, like the free personalized schedule and e-mail reminder service the Car Care Council offers, can help you drive smart, save money and make informed decisions.”

St. Patrick’s Day in Charleston, South Carolina

No matter what your heritage is, everyone can have lots of fun on St. Patrick’s Day. We’re all familiar with the traditions of wearing green, eating Irish food, and drinking as much beer as possible. But if you’re looking for some extra fun on St. Patrick’s Day in Charleston, you are in luck!

Every year in North Charleston there is a St. Patrick’s Day block party and parade. This year, the event will be held on Saturday, March 14th from noon until 7pm. The fun includes three stages of live music, vendors, bouncy castles for the kids, a mechanical bull, Irish food, and beer (naturally).

This year, Charleston will be holding a special event to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with man’s best friend, the St. Paddy’s Pawlooza. On Saturday, March 14th, head to North Charleston Wannamaker County Park with your dog from noon until 4 PM. There will be live music, beer, and food trucks. Be sure to dress both you and your furry friend in your finest green attire. Admission is $5 per person and all dogs must remain on a leash when not inside the off-leash dog park.

And if you didn’t have enough fun on Saturday, right here in Charleston there will be a St. Patrick’s Day parade on March 17th. The festivities for this day start with a Mass at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 8am. Then the parade will begin at 10am outside of the church, head down King Street, and end at City Hall with the raising of the Irish flag at approximately 11:30am.

How will you be celebrating this St. Patrick’s Day?

2015 Chevrolet Colorado Z2 Concept Eats Dirt For Breakfast

2015 Chevrolet Colorado Z2 Concept Eats Dirt For Breakfast

The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Z2 Concept Unveiled at the L.A. Auto Show

We’ve all waited long enough for the right-size truck to come out. We didn’t want a giant truck that was impossible to manipulate in parking lots and other tight urban spots. We also didn’t want a dinky truck that was only good for moving, if you were moving out of a one-room apartment the size of a closet.  Just like Goldilocks, we wanted a truck that was “just right.”

Well, it’s finally here: The 2014 Chevrolet Colorado. Top Speed puts it perfectly when they write that the Colorado (and it’s cousin the Canyon) are “easier to drive, while their powerful gasoline powertrains keep all the truck-style capabilities truck buyers demand.”

Enhancing what is already an extremely useful truck, Chevy has created an off-road concept, the Chevrolet Colorado Z2 Concept. The automaker starts by making this particular Colorado with a wider stance. Of course, it has huge tires ready to eat up sand and dirt. On the front and the rear axle, it’s got electronic locking differentials. They also bestowed it with a DuraMax turbodiesel. A mind-blowing package, indeed.

Though it’s only a concept for now, Top Speed thinks that “while few concept vehicles actually make it to production, this one might actually have a shot.”

Until then, stop by Mama’s Used Cars and check our awesome current truck models!

It’s October in Charleston and There’s So Much to Do!

It’s October in Charleston and There’s So Much to Do!

Just because the summer is coming to an end in Charleston doesn’t mean that the city is going to sleep, too. There are still plenty of events throughout the month of October that you can look forward to!

Charleston is known for its arts and music, and autumn is a time of rebirth and exhibition for the local art scene. The Colour of Music festival is an ongoing event celebrates black classical musicians. Twenty performances will be held at multiple locations in Charleston, starting October 17th.

If you would like to have fun while giving back to the community, Middleton Place also has a charity event for breast cancer research this year during their Fall Wine Strolls. A portion of all Wednesday proceeds will be donated. It lasts until the 29th of October.

Last, there’s the fall festival , which lasts the whole month of October. Games, activities, events and more will be featured during the festival. The highlights are, of course, the pumpkin patch and the two Chick-Fil-A corn mazes.

Mama’s Used Cars is excited for all the wonderful things going on in Charleston this fall, but the best thing of all will be the great deals on fantastic vehicles that we will be hosting all month!
