Edmunds

If the internet was around during the age of the dinosaurs, we’re pretty sure Edmunds would have been around, too. This prestigious car comparison website is known as one of the best on the internet. Edmunds packs tons of information and reviews about a variety of brands and models onto its site. This allows consumers to compare and contrast up to four vehicles at once, giving you plenty of information to make a decision while you’re shopping.

CarComplaints.com

While it isn’t as much of a comparison site as the rest of these, CarComplaints.com offers more information on any make and model of vehicle than any other. It even includes common owner complaints and issues, recalls, crash tests, active investigations, and any vehicle Technical Service Bulletins. Through this website, you can get a feel of what it’s like to actually own the vehicle you’re interested in!

CarGurus

CarGurus is the website you go to if you’re looking for new and used car listings galore for vehicles around the country. Even though the site focuses mostly on helping you find a vehicle to buy, it also has tons of information, including test-drive experiences, comprehensive expert reviews, and customer reviews. This website even helps you compare the vehicle’s market worth with available listings around you, so you can find the perfect deal!

Kelley Blue Book

As one of the biggest mainstay websites in the vehicle research department, Kelley Blue Book is a practical encyclopedia for car shoppers. It combines a plethora of useful information, estimated values to sellers, pricing guides, and a comparison tool that lets you compare four vehicles side by side to create a comprehensive guide while you’re shopping for new vehicles.

TrueDelta

This savvy website combines car research with comparison, adding a dash of owner-submitted information to round off the car-shopping experience. TrueDelta has a massive database that covers almost everything, including real-life costs of repairs, reliability, mileage, and car prices. Affordable AWD Models are Easier to Find than You Think

Affordable AWD Models are Easier to Find than You Think

Even though we don’t get much snow during the wintertime, we here at Mama’s Used Cars recognize the importance of a vehicle’s handling and features like AWD. This relatively recent innovation is different than 4WD because it sends power to each individual wheel as it needs it, drastically increasing performance.

On the downside, AWD can get expensive – so we’ve put together a list of affordable AWD models using the NY Daily News as our guide:

First on our list is the 2001 Jeep Cherokee. This model was the envy of off-road enthusiasts everywhere. With a tall ride height and square body, this model features a famous inline six-cylinder engine and incredibly durability. The Cherokee has incredible handling thanks to its AWD, and won’t cost a fortune.

Number two on our list is the 2008 Honda CR-V. This model is newer than the Cherokee, and features a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine that gets 25 mpg highway. Not only that but they’re affordable, reliable, and safe thanks to its innovative AWD system.

Last but not least, the 2012 Ford Escape. Whether you’re driving in dunes, near the mountains, or on the highway, the Escape has some of the best handling for the job thanks to its AWD system. Though they come standard with FWD, AWD models are available. Not only do they handle well, look great, and drive smoothly, the Escape is affordable as well.

Stop by to check out any of these models and their AWD systems and see what you’ve been missing.

2015 Chevrolet Colorado Z2 Concept Eats Dirt For Breakfast

2015 Chevrolet Colorado Z2 Concept Eats Dirt For Breakfast

The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Z2 Concept Unveiled at the L.A. Auto Show

We’ve all waited long enough for the right-size truck to come out. We didn’t want a giant truck that was impossible to manipulate in parking lots and other tight urban spots. We also didn’t want a dinky truck that was only good for moving, if you were moving out of a one-room apartment the size of a closet.  Just like Goldilocks, we wanted a truck that was “just right.”

Well, it’s finally here: The 2014 Chevrolet Colorado. Top Speed puts it perfectly when they write that the Colorado (and it’s cousin the Canyon) are “easier to drive, while their powerful gasoline powertrains keep all the truck-style capabilities truck buyers demand.”

Enhancing what is already an extremely useful truck, Chevy has created an off-road concept, the Chevrolet Colorado Z2 Concept. The automaker starts by making this particular Colorado with a wider stance. Of course, it has huge tires ready to eat up sand and dirt. On the front and the rear axle, it’s got electronic locking differentials. They also bestowed it with a DuraMax turbodiesel. A mind-blowing package, indeed.

Though it’s only a concept for now, Top Speed thinks that “while few concept vehicles actually make it to production, this one might actually have a shot.”

Until then, stop by Mama’s Used Cars and check our awesome current truck models!

2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Gets Five-Star Safety Rating

2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Gets Five-Star Safety Rating

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has awarded Hyundai’s 2015 Santa Fe Sport with a five-star safety rating. The vehicle scored perfectly in both the front and side crash tests, while snagging a still-incredible score of four in the rollover crash test.

Both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models of the safe 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport were given these ratings, making this Santa Fe Sport one of the safest vehicles of the year.

The list of safety equipment within the award-winning Santa Fe Sport “includes electronic stability control, traction control, and antilock brakes,” as well as seven airbags – including a driver’s knee airbag – to keep every passenger as protected as possible in the event of an accident.

As the number of driving deaths in the United States each year stays astronomically high, with over 30,000 deaths reported in 2012, car safety is as paramount as ever.

Caution and safety should always be the priority on the minds of drivers. Come check out any of our many safe vehicles at Mama’s Used Cars here in Charleston.
