Tips for Trick or Treat Safety

If you’ve got kids, odds are they’ll be going out trick-or-treating tonight. To them, it can be one of the best nights of the year, but to parents, having one’s kids roaming the streets during nighttime can rightly be worrisome. So we’ve got a few trick or treat safety tips for you and your family to help put your mind at ease.

First, plan a route together. Trick or treating can take your kids several streets away from home and it’s a good idea for both you and them to know exactly where they’re going. Also remember that while teenagers may want to be out on their own, children aged 12 and under should not be out at night by themselves, and we strongly recommend adult supervision.

Second, take a look at their costume. Make sure they are wearing comfortable shoes and not wearing a mask that could potentially obstruct their breathing or vision. Non-toxic makeup is a good way to get around wearing a mask if they really want something on their face. You should also consider the length of their costume—it shouldn’t be too long, or else it’ll drag on the floor and potentially get caught on something and cause an accident.

Finally, check the candy when everyone is home. Toss out any that isn’t in its original wrapper or looks as though it has been opened.

And that’s it! Happy and safe Halloween from Mama’s Used Cars!

What You Should Look For When Shopping for a Pickup Truck

What You Should Look For When Shopping for a Pickup Truck

Get this 4-door 2010 Ford F-150 XLT at Mama’s Used Cars!

Here at Mama’s Used Cars, we have a fantastic selection of used pickup trucks! How do you know which pickup is best suited for you and your family, though? Cars.com recently put together a list of “Five Things Families Should Look for in Pickup Trucks” and we have listed them for you below.

1. Four Doors

Make sure the pickup truck you’re looking to purchase has four doors so your family isn’t fighting over who can squeeze into the backseat the quickest. Four doors will make both you and your kids’ lives much easier, and more comfortable.

2. Running Boards

Running boards may be on the best inventions of the 21st century. Unless you’re a giant, pickup trucks are generally difficult to step into, especially for younger children. Avoid bruised shins and scraped knees and choose a pickup truck with running boards so everyone can easily get in and out of the truck.

3. Storage

With a large family, it’s important to have as much cargo room as possible. There’s always room for an extra cooler, kid, tent, or whatever else you need in a pickup truck.

4. Seating Options

A lot of family friendly vehicles say they can seat up to so many people with maximum comfort, but we all know it’s just not true. However, in a full size pickup truck you can actually sit comfortably with a lot of space. If the truck has a front bench seat you are able to seat 6 people, without one you can seat 5 very comfortably. The back seat of a truck has the ability to fit three full size child safety seats, so you can rest assured that your children and other passengers will be comfortable.

5. Comfort, Convenience, & Safety Features

As mentioned above, pickup trucks offer maximum comfort because of a wider frame and larger interior. In addition, pickup trucks offer easy to use features and come with the high safety ratings.

If you’re looking for a family friendly vehicle, look no further than a full size pickup truck. Check out our great selection here at Mama’s Used Cars!

Tesla Considers Certified Used Car Program

Tesla Considers Certified Used Car Program

When you think of Tesla, the first thought you have is probably not, “They have some great used cars!” Even though the California-based car company is famous for their advanced electric-vehicles that put many other vehicles to shame, Tesla has recently guaranteed consumers that they will buy back its electric vehicles from owners who want to get rid of them after three years of ownership. With these vehicle buybacks beginning in spring of 2016, Tesla is looking to create a certified used car program.

Tesla made this buyback promise in the spring of 2013, stating that they would buy back three-year-old Model S vehicles for at least 43% of the car’s sticker prices. Elon Musk, Tesla’s Chief, even stated that he would personally pay the cash for the cars himself if the company did not do so. With these used-vehicle sales, Tesla could see an even greater profit than it has before, though they won’t be allowed to sell direct-to-consumers, due to many state laws.

Fall Road Trip Destinations

Fall Road Trips

October is one of our favorite months at Mama’s Used Cars, and for a very good reason. October means fall, and fall means wind blowing through colorful leaves, cool temperatures, pumpkin-flavored drinks, and maybe even a road trip to some of the most beautiful places the country has to offer.

But where to go on a fall road trip when you’re from South Carolina? Most people don’t equate the mid-Atlantic region with premium foliage viewing, but most people would be wrong. At 6,684 feet, Mt. Mitchell is the highest mountain in the eastern USA, and the surrounding Pisgah National Forest makes for excellent viewing.

Another great opportunity for a leafy road trip is a drive through waterfall country on US Route 276, or anywhere along the Blue Ridge Parkway that stretches from Virginia to North Carolina.

Finally, there’s Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, Gambrill and Cunningham Falls state parks in Maryland, and Sideling Hill on Interstate 68. Though if you’re willing to drive much further, the whole country has many more sights to offer!

It’s October in Charleston and There’s So Much to Do!

It’s October in Charleston and There’s So Much to Do!

Just because the summer is coming to an end in Charleston doesn’t mean that the city is going to sleep, too. There are still plenty of events throughout the month of October that you can look forward to!

Charleston is known for its arts and music, and autumn is a time of rebirth and exhibition for the local art scene. The Colour of Music festival is an ongoing event celebrates black classical musicians. Twenty performances will be held at multiple locations in Charleston, starting October 17th.

If you would like to have fun while giving back to the community, Middleton Place also has a charity event for breast cancer research this year during their Fall Wine Strolls. A portion of all Wednesday proceeds will be donated. It lasts until the 29th of October.

Last, there’s the fall festival , which lasts the whole month of October. Games, activities, events and more will be featured during the festival. The highlights are, of course, the pumpkin patch and the two Chick-Fil-A corn mazes.

Mama’s Used Cars is excited for all the wonderful things going on in Charleston this fall, but the best thing of all will be the great deals on fantastic vehicles that we will be hosting all month!
