When searching for a great used car, there are a number of factors to take into account before making your purchase. Of course everyone looks at things like the price, the mileage, and the year of the car, but how can you assure the car will be reliable to get your money’s worth?

Recently Yahoo! Autos put together their list of the “10 Most Reliable Car Brands”, using research they compiled in over a year and a half study with over 350,000 sample vehicles from all over the country. Most studies use two time frames, normal initial quality (90 days) and “long-term” quality (3 to 5 years), but Yahoo! Autos extended their time frames to make sure buyers were getting the most for their money.

The top five brands in the study were Chevrolet, Honda, GMC, Lexus, and Toyota – with Toyota earning the top spot. Mama’s used cars is proud to offer used models from each of these brands, including a 2008 Lexus ES 350 and a 2013 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner!

Kelley Blue Book Names Honda as Most Trusted & Best Overall Brand

Honda has again been named the Most Trusted Brand and Best Overall Brand in Kelley Blue Book’s 2014 Brand Image Award study, reflecting Honda’s commitment both to its customers and to persistent vehicle quality.

This is the third consecutive year Honda earns the Most Trusted Brand award and the second consecutive year it is named the Best Overall Brand.

The study, which is based on data from more than 12,000 new-vehicle purchases, offers insight into the motivations behind shopper’s purchase decisions as well as the effects of brand/model familiarity and loyalty.

“Our experience has indicated that consumers continue to both respect Honda vehicles and be enthusiastic about them,” said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book. “Honda’s reputation for quality, reliability and fun-to-drive continues to resonate with buyers of all ages.”

With both awards in hand, Honda proves once more that quality and reliability are their main priority. Just take a look at some of our used Hondas at Mama’s Used Cars!

Preparing for a Summer Road Trip to Remember

Make this summer road trip one to remember!

Make this summer road trip one to remember!

Ahh… The Spring season is upon us, and pretty soon you’ll be packing up the kiddos and heading out for your summer road trip adventure. As you begin crafting your plans, consider these tips for preparation.

Where will you go? Before you choose your destination, take some time to research lesser-known attractions either in your area or across the country. As you determine your route, websites like Roadtrippers.com can help you find roads dotted with fascinating stops along the way.

When will you leave? As long as you don’t mind driving in the dark, choose to begin your trip at an odd time of day. Leaving very early or very late will allow you cover more ground more quickly than if you were to share the road with commuters on their way to work. If possible, we at Mama’s Used Cars recommend you avoid traveling during holidays like Memorial Day weekend, July 4th, and Labor Day weekend.

What will you bring? Leisurely road trips are more about the journey than the destination, so it’s essential to be prepared to enjoy the car ride. Family and friends, fun activities, and food are the three most important things to bring with you, though not necessarily in that order.

Of course, don’t forget to stop by Mama’s for a maintenance check before you set out on your merry way!

Artist Pays for Billboards Blasting People Texting and Driving

We all know it: texting and driving is dangerous, and people lose their lives on the road everyday because they are texting and driving, or because someone else is. One San Francisco artist, Brian Singer, has had enough of it. That’s why he started a blog called Texting While in Traffic, to which he uploads photos he takes of people on major roadways who are texting while driving. (Don’t worry; Singer is safely seated in the passenger seat when he snaps the photos).

After his Facebook and blog began to gain some traction, Singer took things one step further. To gain people’s attention, and to hopefully make them think twice before texting and driving the next time they get behind the wheel, Singer paid for eleven—yes, eleven—billboards in and around San Francisco that feature everyday drivers caught in the act of texting while driving.

The billboards will remain up throughout April, which is Driving Distracted Awareness Month. You can check out more of Singer’s work, as well as photos of the billboards, at The News Wheel.

What do you think about these billboards? Is this an effective way to get the point across, or does it cross the line? Let all of us at Mama’s Used Cars know in the comments below.
